Why WaterPress?
Why WaterPress? The production of plastic water bottles consumes roughly 1.5 million tons of plastic each year (WWF 2001). Ten percent of plastic produced worldwide each year ends up in our oceans, seventy percent of which ends up on the ocean floor, where it may never degrade (UN 2006). The pollution of our earth as a result of the plastic water bottle industry is terrifying. Day after day millions of bottles are produced worldwide to replace the empty ones piling up in our landfills and oceans. It's time for action; it's time for a solution. It's time to TAKE BACK THE TAP.
What are the benefits of a portable filtration system like WaterPress?
A portable filtration system such as the WaterPress "On the go" bottle has many benefits, for you as well as our earth. Saving money is just the beginning. Bottled water is many times more expensive than tap water; roughly 100 times more expensive based on a 2004 Canadian municipal water pricing report. By replacing plastic bottled water with your own personal portable filtration system you can have great tasting, freshly filtered water at a fraction of the cost.
As well as being financially costly, plastic bottles can pose health risks. Bisphenol A, or BPA, is used as an intermediate in the production of polycarbonate plastics, which are commonly used in food storage containers such as water bottles. BPA can be toxic to humans in high concentrations, especially to infants and newborns. Leeching of BPA from bottles into the water is slow at room temperature, however with time and exposure to heat leeching occurs much more quickly. If bottles are stored in high heat conditions or exposed to the sun during transportation BPA levels could be very high. Why take the risk of not knowing all the details? A WaterPress "On the go" bottle is entirely BPA free, and your water is guaranteed freshly filtered each time you use your bottle. Trust your water with a WaterPress.
WaterPress bottles are designed to be practical and convenient. A WaterPress can be filled at any tap or water fountain and will remove many synthetic and organic compounds including chlorine. This will greatly improve both the taste and odor of your water. The flip style mouthpiece has an open position for drinking and a locked position to prevent leaking. Once closed the surface of the lid is uniform, giving the bottle a sleek and compact appearance. This along with the carrying strap makes it a sensible choice for transporting your water anywhere.
How does WaterPress' "On the go" bottle compare to other filter systems and personal filter bottles?
The most significant difference between a WaterPress and the majority of personal filter bottles is the filtration system. WaterPress filters water as it enters the bottle, similar to a pitcher filter you keep at home. Unlike a pitcher filter, a WaterPress bottle requires downward pressure to move water across the activated carbon filter. Most personal filter bottles require upward pressure, as water is filtered on the way out of the bottle. This difference in design leads to several key features that are unique to a WaterPress.
One of the central features of a WaterPress is the material used in the bottle and system. Personal filter bottles which filter on the way out must be made of soft plastic, as the upward pressure required to actively filter the water comes from squeezing the bottle. This soft plastic is not as durable as the stainless steel of a WaterPress. Our filter system requires no squeezing of the bottle, so we were able to take advantage of the tougher and sturdier stainless steel. The filter system is made of ABS plastic, formulated to be high impact and high gloss, so it can last just as long as the bottle.
To filter water as it exits the bottle not only requires a soft plastic material but also requires that the user suck on the mouthpiece to aid filtration. The combination of sucking, squeezing and drinking can be an inconvenience while attempting to get a quick sip of water. In a WaterPress, filtration occurs on the way in by applying downward pressure to move water across the filter directly into the bottle. Once two quick ‘presses' are complete, the bottle is full of filtered water and ready to drink, hassle free. WaterPress requires neither sucking nor squeezing; simply fill your bottle, open the mouthpiece and enjoy as water pours freely from the bottle.
When compared with an at home filter pitcher the advantage of a portable WaterPress "On the go" bottle is apparent. An at home pitcher limits you to filling up once before you leave, whereas the portable convenience of a WaterPress gives you freshly filtered water wherever you go. The standing water cooler is also a popular option at home or in offices to provide filtered water. Like individual bottles of water these coolers come at a staggering cost when compared to tap water. They require upkeep and re-stocking on a regular basis. So it's up to you, a lifetime of purchasing bottled water or one WaterPress "On the go" bottle. Will you be a part of the revolution to TAKE BACK THE TAP?
